Operating through a unified platform, this subsection outlines the application pathways for both Canadian and international applicants, ensuring clarity and accessibility for all.

How to Apply for Admissions (for International Students)

Ontario College / Collège Ontario (COC) accepts applications to its programs all year round. However, international students are advised to apply as early as possible since obtaining a student visa at the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate in their home country may be a lengthy process. If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Office at Tel.: 416-798-8899, Mobile: 416-836-4886, or email: admissions@ontariocollege.ca.

Here are the steps for applying to a program of study at COC:

Step 1
To apply for admission, please download and complete the attached Application Form (Click here to download the form). There is no closing date as applications are processed throughout the year. However, it is advised that you apply well in advance because there could be delays when applying for a Canadian Study Permit.

Step 2
Please send your completed Application Form, along with all supporting documentation and proof of payment for the required non-refundable application fee of CAD $300.00, to the Admissions Office.

Supporting documentation includes:

  1. A copy of the applicant’s passport;
  2. Applicant’s transcripts/school reports for the most recent three school years, with certified translations if not in English. (Applicants who are currently attending Grade 12 or have finished Grade 12 must upload transcripts/school reports for the past four years from Grade 9, with certified translations if not in English.);
  3. All certificates and external exam results, including but not limited to, all valid international English testing reports and/or certificates of any music, dance, or arts modular level of education/training, etc. (if applicable);
  4. Proof of English Language Proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or any other internationally recognized English test);
  5. Resume (if you have any employment experience).

The required non-refundable application fee of $300.00 (CAD) can be paid via T/T Wire Transfer, Bank Draft, Visa/MasterCard, Debit Card, Cash, Cheque, or e-transfer. Please refer to our Fee Schedule for more payment details.

If applicable, complete the Residence Application Form and/or Homestay Application Form.

Finally, email all documents to COC’s Admissions Office at admissions@ontariocollege.ca.

Step 3
We will evaluate your application based on your academic qualifications and English language skills for your chosen program of study. We will first conduct a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) evaluation to determine how many credits to grant for equivalent courses you have taken at your previous schools in your home country. We will also determine how many credits you need to earn to qualify for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma in accordance with the curricular guidelines and requirements of the Ministry of Education of the Province of Ontario.

Students applying for admission into the following featured programs of study at COC must take the English Diagnostic Test and the Math Diagnostic Test to determine their placement status:

  • UTSE (UT Science and Engineering Passport Program)
  • TUBS (Canadian Top-5 University Business School Passport Program)
  • ATUP (American Top-50 Universities Passport Program)
  • UTEP (UT Elite Majors Passport Program)
  • CTUP (Canadian Top-10 Universities Passport Program)
  • CTAU (Canadian Top Art Universities Passport Program)

Step 4
After we receive the non-refundable registration fee of CAD $300.00, the completed application form, the required transcript(s), the resume (when applicable), and the results of the English and Math Diagnostic Tests (in the case of applications for featured programs), the Office of Admissions will review your application with all supporting documents and determine your admissibility. Once your application satisfies the basic requirements of your intended program of study at COC, a Letter of IOA (Initial Offer of Admission) will be issued to you along with a Letter of PLAR Evaluation Outcome, an IEP (Individual Education Plan), an Invoice of Tuition and Fees for the Program of Study, as well as a Form of Confirmation of Acceptance of Initial Offer of Admission for you to sign to confirm your acceptance of the Offer of Admission from COC, as required by the Office of Admissions and Registration.

Step 5
In order to accept the offer of a placement in one of our programs, it will be necessary to pay the tuition fees and other charges due. This will include the registration fee, tuition for all required modular levels of ESL (English as a Second Language) or EAP (English for Academic Purposes) courses and two modular TOEFL/IELTS courses, plus tuition fees for your intended Program of Study such as one of the six featured programs, or the regular OSSD credit courses, or the AP or IB credit courses, as per your intended program and the assessment outcome of the PLAR evaluation. Payment of the amount due should be made in either US dollars or Canadian dollars to the College Bank Account by bank draft, money order, or T/T wire transfer. Payment by cash or credit card can be made in person or on your behalf by a relative living in Canada.

After receipt of your tuition fees, we will send you the official Letter of Acceptance and a tuition fee receipt or tuition fee deposit receipt that are needed to apply for the Temporary Resident Visa and Study Permit.

Step 6
After we confirm the receipt of your payment of tuition and fees, as well as the completed and signed Form of Confirmation of Acceptance of Initial Offer of Admission, we will issue you a Formal Letter of Acceptance and a signed and sealed copy of the receipt of your payment of the tuition fees and charges. We will create a package for you that includes the following:

a. Correspondence indicating the program to which you have been admitted and the starting date of the program. We will indicate any conditions that must be fulfilled before enrollment can be confirmed.
b. A receipt confirming the amount of the payment of tuition fees and charges.
c. Student services information, including health insurance, accommodation, etc.
d. Information on applying for the necessary Temporary Resident Visa and Study Permit.

Step 7
Apply for your Temporary Resident Visa and Study Permit at the appropriate Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate in your country. The processing time will vary, so it is best to apply as soon as possible. The main requirements for the Temporary Resident Visa and Study Permit are:

a. Completed Form: Application for a Study Permit
b. Proof of Acceptance (This is the original Letter of Acceptance issued by COC)
c. Proof of Identity (A valid passport and four additional passport-sized photos)
d. Proof of Financial Support (You must be able to prove that you will be able to support yourself financially while you are in Canada)
e. A medical examination is necessary if you plan to study in Canada for more than six months.

Exact details regarding Temporary Resident Visas and Study Permits can be obtained from the nearest Canadian diplomatic mission.

Step 8
After your application for a Temporary Resident Visa and Study Permit has been approved by the Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate in your country, you will be ready to plan your move to Canada. The Student Services Coordinators at COC are able to help you with this transition and will be pleased to assist with any details of your move.

If applicable, please complete the Residence Application Form and/or Homestay Application Form and submit it to housing@ontariocollege.ca. The Student Services Coordinator at COC will assist you in finalizing the accommodation arrangement for your stay in the Greater Toronto Area.

Step 9
When you enter Canada, you must:

a. Satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.
b. Have been accepted by the college to which you applied for admission.
c. Prove that you have enough money during your stay in Canada to pay for tuition fees, living expenses for yourself and accompanying family members, and return transportation for yourself and accompanying family members.

Step 10

After you arrive in Toronto, you will need to contact the Office of Admissions and Registration of COC and enroll for your semester.

How to Apply for Admissions (Canadian Applicants)

The following guide applies to Canadian applicants. You are considered a Canadian or domestic applicant if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, residing either within or outside the country.

Step 1 – Explore Ontario College / Collège Ontario

Before beginning your application, we encourage you to learn more about our programs, services, and learning environment. Take a virtual tour and connect with us to experience student life at COC. Start your exploration now.

Step 2 – Log In to or Create Your COC Application Account

To begin your application, log in to or create your COC application account through Apply Online. If this is your first time applying, you will need to create an account. Please use the applicant’s legal name as it appears on their birth certificate or passport.

If the system recognizes your email address during account creation, it will be highlighted in red after you press “Submit.” If this occurs, or if you created an account previously and cannot remember your login information, click “Forgot Login?” You will be prompted to enter your email address and request your username and password. After submitting this request, check your email inbox for two messages containing your username and login instructions.

Creating more than one account per applicant may delay processing. If the applicant is a minor, only a parent or legal guardian is authorized to create an account and submit an application. Agents submitting an application on behalf of a parent should contact the Office of Admissions at admission@OntarioCollege.ca before creating an account.

Step 3 – Submit an Application Form and Pay the Application Fee

Once logged in, click the application form button to begin. You may save your work and return to complete it later. Please allow 30 minutes to one hour total to complete the form. Ensure all fields are completed before submission, as information cannot be edited afterward. Please allow two days for processing of the application form and payment.

We encourage applicants to apply as early as possible for admission into the new academic year. However, we accept applications year-round. For Grade 11 and 12 students aspiring to graduate from the OSSD program by the end of June, applications will be accepted until December 23 of the current academic year. Senior-year students are encouraged to apply early, as university admission timelines are competitive.

Application Fees:

  • $200 for Canadian applicants
  • $300 for international students

If an agent is submitting an application on behalf of a student, or if a prospective student is completing a paper application, please download and complete the attached Application Form (Click here to download). Submit the completed form along with the following supporting documents to admissions@OntarioCollege.ca:

  1. A photocopy of the applicant’s birth certificate or valid passport (cover and information pages)
  2. A recent passport-size photo meeting official passport and visa requirements
  3. Official transcripts or final report cards from the two to three most recent academic years at prior and current schools
  4. The most recent internationally recognized English testing certificate or official report demonstrating English proficiency (if English is not the applicant’s first language)
  5. Alternatively, English and Math Placement Test reports, which can only be taken at www.OntarioCollege.ca if applying for one of our featured programs for accelerated university pathways

Paper applications may experience processing delays. Early submission with all required documents is recommended. There is no application closing date, as applications are processed throughout the year.

Step 4 – Submit Birth Verification and Final Report Cards

Once your application has been processed, log back in to upload PDF copies of the following:

  • Final school reports for the most recent two or three academic years
  • Passport photo and name page (merge multiple pages into a single file before uploading)

Upon receipt, files are reviewed to determine eligibility based on age and language requirements. Ineligible applicants will be notified as soon as possible.

Applicants who wish to graduate and be placed in a university by the end of June must submit these documents by December 22 of the current academic year.

Step 5 – Apply for Financial Assistance

COC commits over $500,000 annually to financial aid, including bursaries and tuition fee waivers (equivalent to one-third of a one-time full-year tuition fee for eligible students). Financial assistance is need-based and separate from admission decisions. It is available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents entering Grades 9 through 12.

The $500,000 fund also includes one-time merit-based Entrance Scholarships for Excellence, awarded to top candidates based on academic performance and other strengths in their admission application. No separate application is required. Awards, comprising scholarships and bursaries, range from $1,000 to 50% of annual tuition.

The deadline to apply for needs-based financial assistance is December 31 of the intended academic year. Visit Tuition and Financial Assistance to learn more and apply.

Step 6 – Submit a Current Report Card

All applicants must submit a current school report once the item appears on their checklist. Mid-term reports are typically issued in early November, and final report cards are available by the end of December. Please upload the current report as soon as the upload option becomes available.

Step 7 – Await Interview, Assessment, and Decision

Applicants to featured programs (such as UTSE and UTEP) who are being considered for Entrance Scholarships for Excellence or bursaries may be contacted to schedule interviews and assessments prior to admission decisions.

Step 8 – Placement Tests, PLAR, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Your application will be evaluated based on academic qualifications and English language skills for your chosen program. A Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) evaluation will determine transfer credits for equivalent courses taken at previous schools. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will outline the credits required to qualify for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines.

Students applying to the following featured programs must take the English and Math Diagnostic Tests to determine placement:

  • UTSE (UT Science and Engineering Passport Program)
  • TUBS (Canadian Top-5 University Business School Passport Program)
  • ATUP (American Top-50 Universities Passport Program)
  • UTEP (UT Elite Majors Passport Program)
  • CTUP (Canadian Top-10 Universities Passport Program)
  • CTAU (Canadian Top Art Universities Passport Program)

Step 9 – Issuance of Initial Offer of Admission (IOA), PLAR Letter, IEP, Financial Aid Offer, and Tuition Invoice

Upon receipt of the non-refundable CAD $200 registration fee, completed application form, required transcripts or report cards, resume (if applicable), English proficiency test results (if applicable), and diagnostic test results (for featured programs), the Office of Admissions will review your application.

If basic admission requirements are met, you will receive:

  • Letter of Initial Offer of Admission (IOA)
  • PLAR Evaluation Outcome Letter
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Financial Aid or Merit Award Offer
  • Tuition and Fees Invoice
  • Confirmation of Acceptance Form

Note: The Board of Directors grants Canadian applicants a tuition fee waiver equivalent to one-third of annual tuition fees.

Step 10 – Delivery of Formal Letter of Acceptance, Official Tuition Receipt, and Orientation Package

To accept your placement, payment of tuition and fees is required. This includes registration fees, ESL or EAP course tuition, and, if applicable, two modular TOEFL/IELTS courses for those not exempt from English proficiency testing. Tuition for your intended program—whether a featured program, OSSD credits, or AP/IB courses—must also be paid.

Canadian applicants receive a tuition fee waiver equivalent to one-third of annual tuition. This and any other financial aid will be detailed on the official tuition invoice.

Payments must be made in CAD or USD via bank draft, money order, or wire transfer to the college’s bank account. Cash or credit card payments may be made in person or by a relative residing in Canada.

Upon confirmation of payment and receipt of the signed Confirmation of Acceptance Form, we will issue a Formal Letter of Acceptance and a signed, sealed tuition receipt. Your orientation package will include:

  • Correspondence confirming your program, start date, and any conditions to be fulfilled
  • Official tuition payment receipt
  • Student services information, including the course calendar, health insurance, accommodation details, and other orientation materials
